The Thomas Bailey Oderin, Placentia Bay Ledgers of Spurrier and Co.

Recently found and released by Newfoundland genealogist and researcher Gail Murphy Taylor, the Thomas Bailey Ledgers cover a period from 1809 to at least the 1860s. The first found of its kind from the Christopher Spurrier and Co. company fonds whom were the largest mercantile business that operated out of Burin for decades from the mid 1700s till its collapse in July 1830. There followed a sale of the company’s Poole and Newfoundland properties, including a fleet of 11 ships and business premises in Burin, Oderin, Barren Island and Isle Valen. The Ledgers cover primarily those men who dealt with Thomas Bailey and his family out of the Oderin branch. These records often cover people that have not been mentioned before in any records found to date.
